Sunday December 19th- 2010
Santa was spotted out on the town today handing out candy canes to all of the children of River Edge.
Monday December 6th- 2010
At approx 1pm units responded to the 700 block of
Summit Avenue for the reported oven fire. Upon arrival units found that the
fire had spread into the walls. Units from Oradell and New Milford were
called in as a 2nd alarm. Firefighters quickly vented the structure and 2
lines were stretched to extinguish the fire.

Saturday November 27th- 2010
Members of the River Edge Fire Department attendced Wallington's annual holiday parade. Chief 1-0, 1-02, Old Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, and Rescue 1 were decorated for the parade. Old Engine 2 was awarded 2nd place in the antique category.

Tuesday November 25th- 2010
At approx. 0655 hours units were dispatched to
Reservoir Avenue for the reported brush fire. While responding, units
were notified that the brush fire had extended to a nearby vehicle.
Upon arrival Engine 3 stretched a line to extinguish the fire. Engine
4 assisted Engine 3 with overhaul and the vehicle was checked for extension.
All units were cleared up by 0730 hours

Sunday October 10th- 2010
The annual River Edge Day was hosted today in Memorial Park. Families turned out to have fun, play some games, and hang out on the firetrucks.
Saturday October 9th- 2010
The River Edge Fire Department hosted its annual Old Timer's night this evening. There was a great turnout and many stories were shared.
Thursday July 29th- 2010
Units responded to the intersection of Monroe Avenue
and Bogert Road
for a Motor Vehicle Accident with rollover. Upon arrival FD units
stabilized the overturned vehicle. The driver of the
overturned vehicle was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.
All units cleared up in a half hour.

Wednesday July 7th- 2010
Units responded to Davis Drive at approx 0115 hours
for a report of a car into a retention pond. Upon arrival FD units assisted
the towing company in removing the vehicle from the pond. The owner of the
vehicle was not injured.

The River Edge Fire Department would like to remind everyone to remember all of the soldiers who helped defend our country and preserve the freedom in which we enjoy today.
Saturday May 22nd- 2010
River Edge Fire Department attended Allendale Fire Department's 100th Anniversary Parade. Members of both houses spent countless hours cleaning and maintaining the apparatus and equipment. Due to the hard work and dedication of the members of River Edge Fire, the department came home with seven trophies. Congratulations to all the members the put in the time and effort that made this possible.

Monday April 5th- 2010
PSE&G will be starting to replace a gas main that runs underneath Kinderkamack Road from Midland Avenue to Howland Avenue starting today. The construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7am until 4pm. The project's estimated completion date is sometime in mid to late summer. Please take note that there will be congestion during these times due to the construction.
Monday March 15th- 2010
Downed power lines, fallen trees, and numerous alarms have been keeping the River Edge Fire Department very busy during this storm and it is not over yet. The River Edge Fire Department would like to remind all of the residents to check the batteries on your smoke detectors and CO alarms. Here are a few pictures from the storm and it's aftermath:
Thursday February 18th- 2010
At 1003 hrs units were dispatched for a working car fire at Dinallo's Restaurant on Johnson Avenue. First arriving PD on scene notified responding units that the car was under the office building behind Dinalos on Route 4 East. Chief 1-01 arrived on scene and established command. Engine 2 arrived on scene and stretched an attack line to make a quick knock down. Rescue 1 entered the structure to check for extension. Engines 3 and 4 stretched precautionary lines to the front door. All units were clear at approximately 1100 hrs.
Thursday February 18th- 2010
At approx 1140 hrs tri-boro units were dispatched to the 300 block of Demarest Avenue in Oradell for the working fire. River Edge 1-02, Truck 1, and Engine 2 responded into Oradell along with New Milford fire units for the second alarm. Engine 2 assisted with overhaul on the second floor with 1-02 as interior operations. All units cleared from the scene by 1400 hrs.

Monday February 15th- 2010
At approx 0630 hrs units were dispatched to Lincoln Avenue for the reported MVA needing extrication. Fire units arrived on scene to find a garbage truck had struck a telephone pole and a tree. The driver had suffered from a heart attack while working. PD had extricated before FD's arrival. BLS from River Edge and ALS from Hackensack were also on scene. Rescue 1 secured the wheels of the truck and stood by. The driver was transported to HUMC. All units cleared up from the scene by 0900 hrs.

Saturday January 30th- 2010
Today, Lt. Lenny Coyman of Hackensack Engine 1 spent his last tour of duty surrounded by family, friends, and co-workers. Lenny will be retiring as of February 1, 2010 after serving the citizens of Hackensack for 27 years.
Lenny is also a Lieutenant for River Edge Company 2.
He is very dedicated to the fire service, whether it be career or volunteer. He has
helped many people in their time of need and will continue to do so in the
borough of River Edge.
Members of River Edge Company 2 would like to extend their
congratulations to Lt. Coyman on his retirement!

Monday January 25th- 2010
At approx 1230 hrs Oradell, River Edge, and New Milford fire units responded to the 700 block of Oradell for the reported flames on the roof. Oradell Chief 2-01 was the first on scene and confirmed a working structure fire. River Edge Ladder 1, Engines 2 & 3, along with Rescue 1 responded to the scene to assist in fire ground operations. River Edge Engine 4 along with Haworth's Ladder staged at Oradell's firehouse to cover the borough. Al units cleared from the scene at approx 1700 hrs.

Thursday January 21st- 2010
Christopher Hrbek, an active firefighter with the Westwood Fire Department and a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps was killed in the line of duty on January 14th while on patrol in Afghanistan. Sgt. Hrbek is the step-son of Westwood FD Captain Jaymee Hodges, and is the step-brother of Westwood and FDNY Firefighters Jim Hodges and Beau Hodges. The River Edge Fire Department would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Westwood Fire Department and the Hrbek and Hodges families.
